(Edmonton, AB) - Edmonton Oilers Pro-Draft Review
The Edmonton Oilers are thrilled to announce that the draft was a stunning success. The Oilers investors group could not have been more pleased to see the team invest in youth, and pinching every penny they could. Among the success credited to GM Wonderkid Will Cornell are:
- The lowest average age in the 22 team league
- The lowest pro-payroll
The team is clearly profit driven, but with names like LeCavalier, Doan, and Raycroft one cannot count them out of the playoff race.
Already excited to see his team grow GM Cornell has commented on the state of the team:
"We're happy to have a couple names. That's all we wanted. Obviously with the crop of youngsters looking for inspiration it'll be Shane and Vincent that'll have to be the guys to step it up.
We drafted Andrew perhaps a little early in the draft for some people, but he was a key part of our draft strategy. He'll be our #1 season long. It'll be a struggle with such an inexperienced group of guys, but if I were you i'd be pre-ordering my playoff tickets for next year, if not this one."
Key Players:
Shane Doan
The oldest player at 28, Shane will captain the Oilers.
Vincent LeCavalier
The team's #1 pick, LeCavalier will be looked to for some serious productivity.
Andrew Raycroft
Andrew Raycroft will be the centre of the team, with his future looking solid.
Pierre-Marc Bouchard
Bouchard will no doubt be a second-liner, and a large part of the team's burden will be placed on his young shoulders.
Chris Higgins
Higgs will most likely play along with PM-Bouchard, giving the Oilers a fairly reliable 2nd line.
Scott Hartnell
Scott Hartnell is seen as an all purpose player, and will be shuffled around regularly. He is invaluable to his team.
