So the pre-season has started, the Yotes have played played 6 games and they are 2-3-0-1. Not the start that would of been expected by this firehouse team. We caught up with GM Austin and were able to get the following comments from him.
Yotoes Yeller: "2 wins in 6 games you must be worried"
Austin: "Not at all. We have no coach, we've changed lines 3 or 4 of those games already. We are playing with combinations to see what works and what does not work. The players are doing this themselves today. Which is great to see the team coming togehter, but we'll be happier when we have a coach to do this stuff".
Yeller: Any progress on the hiring of a coach?
Austin: We're still talking to a few. We'll have one before the season starts, don't worry about that.
Yeller: Your stars, particularly St. Louis and Lecavalier aren't playing up to par, are you worried?
Austin: Not at all. We know that the line of Heatley, Vinny and St. Louis is a dynamite line. We've only played them together one game. We are trying to se eif we can't find other line combos' that work. Our next game you'll see yet another set of line combinations. We want to see if we can get two lines that are threats before we settle on that all-star line.
Yeller: Are you still actively trying to trade?
Austin: Absolutely. We have feelers out in a couple of areas. We're not done and we will make more deals before the start of the season.
Yeller: Our guess is you're looking to add dman?
Austin: Yeah we'll be looking at dman, but I'm open to anybody that makes this club better.
Yeller: What's your biggest surprise so far in this young pre-season?
Austin: Mika Nooranan. Who would of thought he'd be able to do what he did in the games he played. We'll play Habby, again tomorrow night. He hasn't won yet, and if he doesn't play well yet again... we'll go back to Mika. Mika will have a chance to play 7 or 8 games in the pre-season. If he does as good of a job as he did in the first two, in his next starts.. he may just be able to steal the starters role.
Yeller: Are you saying that Habby who was your clear number one may be on the block?
Austin: I didn't say that... but as I said if someone makes an offer and it improves the team. I open to it. I will say it's tough to move goalies... I need another number 1 back and GMs always have a hard time valuing goalies.
Yeller: thanks for you time.
Austin... My pleasure
