(Phoenix, Arizona) - In earth shattering news heard even 200 miles north of Phoenix in the heart of the Grand Canyon, the screams of joy from Coyotes GM Mike Austin could be heard. "No WAY... get OUT.... Are you serious? Legwand, our 1st and $12 Million? Done it's a DEAL!!!!"
With that Vincent Lecavalier joins the Coyotes. A few minutes later bottles of Champaigne were heard to be popping in the GM's office... songs of championship soccer were heard (Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole... Ole, Ole).... In between pops of Champagne Austin is heard to be mumbling something about now having 3 of the guys that he had rated in the top 10 of the draft (we can only speculate he's refering to Heatley, St. Louis and Lecavalier). One can only wonder if this will be the first line, come opening day.
It begs the question, is Austin building the team to be beat? In the moments where he was sober after the trade was announced, he was over-heard to be saying... "I now have, St. Louis, Heatley, Nagy, and Lecavalier... you through in guys like Morozov or Ribero... this team is going to be exciting to watch!"
When questioned about the defense of the team.... Austin lauged and said "Defense? Last time I looked the best defense is to have the BEST offense". All I know is in a state where most people don't even know what a puck is... the question is can Austin make hockey big? Can he build a team that will go all the way?
Rumors are still out there, that he is looking to improve on his defensive play. He would like to find someone to put beside Adam Foote on the defensive side. Although knowing Austin he may decide to make a move to add a offensive defenseman.... it looks like the Coyotes plan on winning a lot of 7-6 and 8-7 games... but one thing is becoming clearer... The Yotes are building an exciting brand of hockey. A brand that this fan personally likes!
