Hello Everyone! I'm Mark Marks here with the Yotes Yeller. Your regular weekly Yotes hotspot. Each week we will bring you ground breaking dirt, the hottest interviews and interesting tid-bits from around the IWHL. We are so proud that on the first installment of the Yotes Y-ELLLLLLLL-EEERRRR we have with us no other than Coyotes GM Mike Austin!
Marks - Mr. Austin welcome to the show.
Austin - Thanks Mark, I'm happy to be here.
Marks - Well since this is your first time here we'll take it easy on ya (whispering to the producers, that... and we want to make sure he comes back.. hahah... oh we're still on the air... oppss). Well Mr. Austin, you've basically selected your team so far in the inaugral IWHL draft. What's your perspective on how the Coyotes have shaped up.
Austin - Well I've actually very proud of the way this team has come together. We have a good mix of youth and veterns. We selected Heatley to build this team around, and were to be honest shocked that we were able to get a couple of others like St. Louis, Adam Foote or Nagy's to build around with him. The core of this team is fairly young and will be together for some time to come.
Marks - Oh give us a break Austin... this can't be all good, give us some dirt... what are you disappointed in. We don't want the glass is half full crap.
Austin - Wow Mark, if this is being nice... I don't know what being nasty is..... but yes we do have some areas to improve or that didnt' happen as we planned. First off the team is likely a little older than we would of liked.. the average age is 27 we would of liked it to be closer to 25. It seems a lot of GM's drafted young. When I look at improvements, I want to fix our defensive core. We have some good young guys that could play this year.. but I don't want 4 of them playing together. I made sure when drafting that I could keep about 8 millilon in cap space so that we could have the room to make some deals.
Marks - Wow talking about deals already!!!! Only on the Yotes Y-ELLLLLL-EERRRRRR! Come on Mike give us the dirt.. who, what, when, where?
Austin - Slow down there Marky.
(Marks stands up and clinches his fists)
Marks - DON'T EVER CALL ME MARKY... YOU NO GOOD...
(Producers rush in, shoving pills and a glass of water down his throat)
Marks - Oh much better... thank you... I'm sorry... I mean please don't call me Marky.. it brings back really bad memories.
(Austin looking a little sheepish)
Austin - Ehmmm.. Ok. As I was saying slow down a like Mark. We haven't even finished the draft yet. Do I want to make a move or two absolutely. Am I willing to move picks in the prospects draft to make the team better today.. absolutely. Have I talked to any of the other GMs yet... No.... but I can tell you this, look at the teams that are way over the cap.. those guys can either call me or expect a call from me. I will say this though, give me sometime. I want to see the coaching staff thinks when we get them hired.
Marks - Ahhh... coaching staff. Any thoughts on that?
Austin - Yeah we're talking to a few guys... but nothing solid yet. We want to be ahead of the pack, but we also want to see who and what the market value of these guys is going to be before we make any decisions. I can give you this insight though. We will be an offensive team. I believe the best deffense is a good offense.
Marks - Ok then, let's change gears for a minute or two. What are your biggest surprises around the league so far.
Austin - I'd have to say the way Montreal has drafted to date. I understand the desire to build a good solid franchise, but wow... i'm not sure that team would compete with my farm team. Toronto has surprised me as well. They are so far over the cap it's not funny. The assests that they have drafted to get under the cap wont' be all that valuable as everyone knows they will be in a jam. Well Mark it's been a slice, but I really do have to get back to the office.
Marks - Ok Mr. Austin... thanks for coming today and we hope you'll come back again... (very audible but whispering... i promise to take my prozac before you get here next time).
Austin - Thanks Mark.
