The Philadelphia Flyers Inagural season was a success despite their record and despite the fact they have missed the playoffs. Their youth movement seems to be in full stride with the exodus of more vets possibly on the move. Here is a review of the teams performance. 36-37-8 for 83 pts and good for 9th in East (missing playoffs by 2 points). 280 gf, 274 ga (+6) Top Forward performances; N.Zherdev- 84-28-50-78 J.Spezza- 81-29-40-69 M.Kraft - 83-29-39-68
Top Defense performances; C.Campoli- 84-16-26-42 J.Pitkanen- 84-16-24-40 C.Phillips- 82- 9-31-40 Goaltending; R.DiPietro- 36-15-16-3, 2.86gaa, .899sv% K.Lehtonen- 22- 5 - 9-0, 3.51gaa, .883sv%
As well there were some strong canidates on the farm for promotion come next season. C.Armstrong- 70-37-49-86, 118 PIM ...tied for top scorer in farm league. M.Richards- 84-26-56-82, 157 PIM... 2nd most (assts.) in farm league. R.Craig- 82-28-52-80, 141 PIM... 3rd Flyer in top 5 scoring in farm league. The Flyers farm team (Phantoms) finished with a 36-33-15- 87pts, good enough for 6th in East and a playoff spot.
It may look like the Flyers season was for naught but it was a season to build on. There will be bigger and better things to come next season. All-in-all GM VanStrepen was please with how his team gelled and is excited about next season. Reporting for the Flyers is; Stan D. Pat (Philadelphia Daily News)
