Flyer season to date has been one of missed oppurtunities, but since making a couple of trades they sit 8th in Eastern Conference with a 23-24-5-1=52 pts. The Flyers started things off with trading disgruntled forward Pierre Daigenais to Atlanta for rising star and power forward Andrew Ladd . The Flyers then saw their team hit the bottom in the standings, so in a move for the future the Flyers traded Marty Turco to Carolina for young stud goaltender Rick DiPietro, they also sent back up 'tender Jamie McLennan to the minors and promoted tender Kari Lehtonen (the Flyers 'goalie of the future'). Almost instanly they rose to where they sit now in 8th.
The few bright spots for the Flyers are as follows:
Nik Zherdev: 23-27-50 (top goal scorer and point getter)
Jason Spezza: 20-27-47 (Top Rookie and tied for assists lead)
Chris Phillips: 4-24-28 (Top Dman)
Ed Jovonovski: +6(Top +/-)(Top in Hits- 132 and PIM-67 mins)
Milan Kraft: 137 Shots (Tops on team)
Flyers Goaltenders look like this:
Rick DiPietro- 5-7-1(19-17-5 total), 3.59gaa, .879 sv%
K.Lehtonen- 2-4-0, 3.76 gaa, .882 sv%
Most dissapointing play so far has come from a couple of players the Flyers were counting on in a huge way:
Brad Boyes- 7-21-28, -10 not nearly good enough for a #2 center and Joni Pitkanen- 9-13-22, -12 worse +/- on team, not what would be expected from argueably your best dman on team.
Will the team continue to off-load vets and continue a successful youth movement or will they hold status-quo.
Stay tuned.
