The Flyers pre-season was a success on most fronts. Those who were asked to lead did that for the most part along with some pleasant surprises as well as some disappointment. Here is a quick re-cap: 3rd in East with 23 points in 20 games. PP was horrible 3rd last in league. PK was great, 2nd best in league 88.5%, only 9 PIM/game Team scoring was tied for 3rd in league w/66 goals in 20 games= (3.14 per) Team defense wasn't bad... allowing an average of under 3 per game..(2.81 per), top half of league. Shots for and against were virtually even at about 28 Player stand outs; Anson Carter led team in all offensive catagories........... 12 goals, 10 assists, 22 points, (=/-) 6. Doing exactly what team signed him to do. Top Rookie was Brad Boyes, with 6 goals and 9 assists for 15 points. He never missed a beat when he went from center to wing. Top Dman was Joni Pitkanen with 1 goal 9 assists for 10 points. Although one thing that will have to change is the point production from all defensemen on the PP, as there wasn't more than one point scored by a defenseman with the extra attacker. Top goalie was Kari Lehtonen in 7 appearances he was 4-1, 1 s/o, 2.45 G.A.A., .910 SV%, While Turco who played the first 10 games (and 14 app. in tot.) was 7-4, 2.80 G.A.A, .907 SV%. disapointments were..... The defensive scoring as a corp and the sub-par play of Jamie McLennan who was 0-3-1 , 3.98 G.A.A and a .866 sv%. Stay tuned for more on the Flyers, with travelling reporter Stan.D Pat.
